2016-17 Travel Program

ACADEMY OF OUR LADY OF PEACE 2016-2017 TRAVEL PROGRAM

It is with great excitement and anticipation that we announce the Academy of Our Lady of Peace’s travel program for the 2016-2017 school. We are beginning our planning for these trips more than one year of departure date to give an extended time to make appropriate financial arrangements.

We are sponsoring two different trips, each with its own special emphasis and opportunities but both offering a unique opportunity for our students to explore the world outside the walls of OLP, in fact outside the boundaries of their own country. We see our travel program as enrichment to our students, a way for them to experience the diversity that the world around us offers and to gain an appreciation of the many and varied cultures of the countries and regions that we visit. On a practical level, our travel program also offers an opportunity for our students to develop real life skills not learned in the classroom – budgeting their time and money, learning to navigate in new environments and developing independent decision making. Overall the ability to participate in a journey abroad is a life-changing experience.

Global Student Leaders Summit: June 30-July 10, 2017
The Future of Food
Available to All Class Levels
Sorrento, Pompeii, Rome, Florence, Turin

This tour to Rome, Florence, Sorrento, and Pompeii and the following leadership conference in Torino will all be centered around the theme of The Future of Food. Here, students, together with other students from around the world, will learn about and develop solutions to help solve one of the world’s most relevant issues of today. Students will consider how what we eat shapes, and is shaped by, our culture, environment and economy. During the Italy Summit, students will discuss emerging technology and new production techniques as they think up creative ideas to feed our growing world. We will of course, too, eat delicious food and see food production in Italy up close! OLP participated in the Summer of 2015 in a similar Leadership Conference in Switzerland based on the Future of Education. It was AMAZING and we are thrilled to announce that we have been invited to participate in this unique travel experience once again. We are also very excited to announce that once again, as last summer, we will be joined on this journey by students from Saint Augustine High School and their faculty chaperones. This is a great opportunity for the students from both schools to interact in a a very different recreational and educational setting.

DUE TO HIGH DEMAND A SPACE ON THIS TRIP MUST BE RESERVED BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2016 .

EXPERIENCE SPAIN AND SOUTHERN FRANCE: April 13-22, 2017
Available to All Class Levels

This tour will bring students face to face with the culture and history of these two countries. Some of the things we will see and do include: Visit the Royal Palace of Spain in Madrid, Barcelona, see Parque Guell, take a tour of Avignon, Lyon and visit the birthplace, in 1650, of our very own Sisters of St. Joseph in Le Puy en Velay – along with much more!

We will be hosting an informational and enrollment meeting for this program on Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 pm in the OLP Library to answer all of your questions. Please know that we have a limited number of spaces, and these trips are expected to fill. We will accept students on a first-come/first-serve basis.
