Course Description:
The ultimate goal of this course is to develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a musical composition. Students will build up on skills introduced in the previous Music Theory course. Building on this foundation, the second semester includes more creative tasks, such as the harmonization of a melody by selecting appropriate chords, composing a musical bass line to provide two-voice counterpoint, or other tasks in musical composition. While the goals of the class include passing the AP Music Exam, the primary goal is to enrich the student’s knowledge of and appreciation of music.
