Class of 1960 Luncheon: Finding One of their Sisters
By Jeanette Handelsman ‘64, Alumnae Engagement Coordinator
It was a very special occasion on September 25 when members of the Class of 1960 joined for lunch in Carlsbad. After extensive detective work, sending notes, knocking on doors and making many phone calls, their “long lost” sister, Karen (Streiff) Kerr ‘60, was able to join them for the first time in many, many years. It was such a joyous occasion and as always happens when “OLP girls” get together, the years that had passed since graduation day melted away in a matter of minutes. The sisterhood that is the Class of 1960 was renewed in a very touching moment.
Karen has fond memories of OLP. She was involved in the choir and synchronized swimming and has fond memories of walking OLP’s beautiful grounds. When asked, “what was the greatest gift OLP gave you?” Karen responded, “What OLP gave me was some stability and calm while in the midst of the storm surrounding me!” She also shared that she is “humbled to now know some of the efforts that were taken by Margie (Wolff) Persson ‘60 and those who assisted her on the 57-year journey to locate me. I look forward to other gatherings and catching up with my classmates.”
We’d like to especially thank Margie (Wolff) Persson ‘60 and Mary (Santos) Mickelson ‘60 for their determination and dedication in finding their OLP sister. We look forward to celebrating Karen’s presence at many more joyous Class of 1960 reunions in the future!
