Alumnae Spotlight: Angela Balistrieri ’18

By Jeanette Handelsman ’64, Alumnae Relations Coordinator

As a freshman student at Harvard University, Angela is already involved and making her mark! She shared with us, “Harvard has been a busy but incredibly eye-opening and overall fantastic experience!” She is on the premed track and gearing herself towards medical school.

She is particularly excited about her membership in MedLife which is a sustainable non-profit organization that delivers medical, educational and developmental aid to communities in Latin America. It is an organization that listens to socioeconomically disadvantaged communities, finding the root causes for the lack of aid, providing high-quality care and emphasizing collaboration between volunteers and locals.

Angela shares that growing up in San Diego, on the border between the United States and Mexico, she was able to see the distinctions in health care between the two countries. As a student at Harvard, she wants to use the resources she has been given to learn and give back to another country. The students in MedLife at Harvard are, on their own, organizing and funding a trip to Cusco, Peru, where they will shadow physicians as they provide medical aid through mobile clinics throughout the region.
