Athletics Week of January 15-19

Novice: Over the break, the Pilots played in the Lady Barons Tournament at Southwest College. They fell short to Otay Ranch 18-26. Iris Lindgren ‘21 scored 13 points and made 3 of 4 shots from the free throw line. They lost to Bonita Vista 23-32 in the second game of the tournament. Iris had 12 points. The Pilots secured an exciting win against Steele Canyon 29-27 with the team scoring a season high of 17 points in just the 3rd quarter! They played a rematch against Bonita Vista, only falling to them by 3 points, 23-26. Iris had 10 points and Sofia Gaxiola ‘21 had 8 points.

JV: The Pilots travelled to Palm Springs for the Lady Lions Holiday Showcase at Cathedral City High School. JV team went 3-0 beating Cathedral City, La Quinta, and Perris High School. In the Lady Barons Tournament, they went 2-3. Outstanding players were Mallory Downing ‘21 and Bella Riggs ‘21, who each averaged 10 rebounds per game throughout the tournament. The Pilots won their first league game against San Diego High School 35-16, with outstanding performance by the entire team.

Varsity: Varsity Basketball stayed busy this winter break.The Pilots took home 3rd place in the Cathedral City Lady Lions Tournament going 2-1. Bailey Gehler ‘19, Gabby Dixon ‘19, Madison Lunde ‘19 and Allison Stowe ‘19 received all Tournament Honors. The Pilots then cruised to the semifinals of the Lady Baron Tournament, only to come up short against Bishops, who eventually won the entire tournament. Bailey Gehler ‘19 picked up All Tournament First Team Honors. The Pilots opened league with a 58-30 win over San Diego High School.

JV: The Pilots played West Hills following exams, taking home a win 3-1. They competed in the Hilltop tournament during the break, finishing with 2 wins and 2 losses. During their 6-0 win over San Ysidro, Hailey Bahoura ‘20 scored 2 goals.

Varsity: The Varsity team also beat West Hills 3-1 with two of the goals scored by Erin Healy ‘19. During break, they played in the Hilltop Tournament winning all four of their games to take home 1st place! In the 15-0 win over High Tech Chula Vista, Taylor Virissimo ‘18 had 3 goals while Rylie Curran ‘19 had 1 goal and 3 assists. Ashlin Healy ‘18 had 2 goals and 2 assists against San Ysidro with a final score of 9-0. Ashley Northrup ‘18 had 1 goal and 4 assists against Morse with a final score of 12-0. The Pilots beat Hilltop 5-1 in the Championship game.

The Surf team had a cold but fun competition last Saturday against Grauer High School. Although they fell short 37-53, Chloe Faucher ‘19 took 2nd place in short board, and Grace Kotnik ‘19 took 1st place in short board and 3rd place overall in longboard. They are both top five in the whole division.
