Athletics Week of October 9-13

Winter Sports Registration is Open
If you are planning to tryout for a winter sport (Basketball, Soccer or Water Polo), please complete the online registration by October 27, 2017. To do this, go to and complete the steps. If you have already turned in your current physical (dated after June 1, 2017) to the school, no need to upload it. Once your account has been reviewed, you will get an email from Coach Blackbourn with an attached emergency card. That will need to be signed by a parent/guardian and given to your coach on the first day of tryouts in order to participate. Please email Coach Blackbourn with any questions at [email protected]

We’d like to give a special shout out to our Varsity and JV cheer squads who performed at both OLP and St. Augustine’s 8th Grade Visitation Days on Wednesday and Thursday this week! Thank you for helping us show our visitors OLP’s school spirit and sisterhood!

Cross Country
The Pilots competed in the Coach Downey Classic last Friday. They started strong and ended stronger with Varsity placing first in their division. Alex Boren ’21 received a 14th place medal. JV placed second in their division. Lily Bass ’19 placed 4th and Meena Aspeytia ’21 placed 8th. Great work, Pilots!

The Varsity Golf team competed against Coronado last week, finishing with a win. Brooke Ryback ’21 was the Medalist, shooting an even par 36 at Coronado Golf Course. Coming up on Monday is the City Conference Championship at Balboa Park Golf Course. Good luck, Pilots!

Varsity: The Pilots faced two strong teams last week. They had a close match with Scripps Ranch, losing in a tiebreaker 71-76. Jolie Morgan ’21 (#1 singles) won all 3 rounds (6-1, 6-1, 6-1); Deniz Guzeldere ’18 & Olivia Lewis ’18 (#1 doubles) and Sanjana Paye ’19 & Allie Stowe ’19 (#3 doubles) won 2 out of 3 rounds; Diana Renteria ’18 (#3 singles) had a solid win in her first round match; and Luisa Garcia ’21 (#2 singles) kept us in the match by winning her second round 7-6 (1) after coming back from 3-5 down. They lost against Coronado 5-13, with strong performances from Deniz Guzeldere & Olivia Lewis (#1 doubles), who won all 3 rounds (6-3, 6-3, 7-5).

JV: The Pilots had a solid 14-4 win against Scripps Ranch. Doubles teams won 8 out of 9 matches with the only loss coming from a hard fought tie-breaker. Doubles stand outs were Greta Drachenberg ’20 & Ella Brazil ’20 and Anna Fontes ’21 & Kate Latham ’20. Singles play was lead by Paulina Castillo ’20 and Jackie Rahimzadeh ’20. Although they fell 7-11 to Coronado, they played a solid match. Strong singles battles were won by Paulina Castillo ’20, Jackie Rahimzadeh ’20 and Hannah Mier y Teran Leon ’20. The doubles team of Kate Latham ’20 and Anna Fontes ’21 kept the score close for the Pilots, but a tiebreaker loss and a couple other close sets led to the Pilots coming up short of upsetting the league-leading Coronado.

JV: The Pilots secured a win against Point Loma last Friday, finishing 18-25, 25-23 and 16-14, with the help of Elaina Patterson ’19 with three consecutive aces.

Freshman: The Pilots had a solid win against Point Loma last Friday, 25-18 and 25-12. On Saturday, they competed in the Westview Freshman Tournament and made it to the semifinals. They finished 1st in their pool (3-0), losing just one set to Rancho Bernardo, and defeated Westview 25-23 in 1st round of playoffs. Carolina DaLuz ’21 was named to All-Tournament Team. Overall, Grace McShefferty ’21 had 3 stuff blocks, Makena Boles ’21 added 7 kills and Ciana Kelly ’21 finished with 9 aces.
