August 2016 Alumnae eNews: OLP Honors Sister Virginia Rodee ’53, RSCJ

Alumna of the Year

We are pleased to announce that a beloved member of the OLP community, Sister Virginia Rodee ’53 RSCJ, will receive the Sr. Claire Patrice Fitzgerald ’56 Alumna of the Year Award at the Alumnae Reunion Weekend’s hosted reception on Friday, August 12 at 11 am. All are encouraged to attend.

Sister Virginia is a warm and generous person who has devoted her life to serving God as a member of the Society of Sacred Heart and has worked in Catholic Education since graduating from the San Diego College for Women (now USD) in 1957. Sister Virginia taught in several schools in California before moving to Korea in 1968, where she taught at the Sacred Heart College and Seminary, served as Dean of Freshman Students and led the religious formation of new members in the Society of Sacred Heart. She also served in Rome preparing Religious of the Sacred Heart for their final profession from 1986-1992. There she traveled many places including Spain, England, Scotland, Poland and France.

In 1997, Sister Virginia returned to the US and joined the staff at the University of San Diego, where she currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Mission and Ministry. Her work at USD includes sharing the Catholic identity, mission and core values with students, faculty, staff and visitors. Sister Virginia has served on OLP’s Board of Directors since 2008 and is a member of the Mission Integration Committee. She is also a current member of four other boards in San Diego. We’re not sure where she finds the time!

Sister Virginia Rodee has made an indelible mark in the lives of people across the world, and right here at OLP. She is an inspiration to many and a reminder of how the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet carries on in the lives of each and everyone of our alumnae. We thank God for her and the many blessings she has brought to our school.
