August 2016 eNewsletter: OLP Will Be Giving it a Tri

By Sally Boettger, Physical Education Department

For the first time ever, the OLP community will participate in the San Diego Triathlon Classic on September 10, 2016. The triathlon is a swim, bike and run event where individuals can do all three legs, or a separate leg of the race on a relay team with three people.

We will have about 10 relay teams and a few individuals representing OLP in the race. Our teams will consist of students, parents, teachers, staff, alumnae, board members and parents, along with spouses of alumni and teachers. Each relay team will have three members of our community participating in a 750-meter swim, 22k bike and a 5k run.

This is a true community-wide event. It’s rare that adults and students can compete on a team together. The relay teams will provide a great opportunity for all of our participants to not only get fit and healthy, but to have parents, teachers, students, alumnae and the OLP community interacting in an extraordinary environment.

Mr. Jose Luis Perez Rocha is the reason behind this great community effort. He has participated in several triathlons and started competing with his daughter, Emilia ’18, in relay events. Emilia is on the OLP swim team and does the swim leg of the triathlons. She believes participating in the triathlon is a “great way to challenge yourself and have fun at the same time.”

Our OLP triathletes have been training throughout the summer and will be ready for the race. If you are interested in being a part of the OLP triathlon community, contact Aaron Gonzalez at [email protected]. We hope to participate in future triathlons after the San Diego Triathlon Classic. Mark September 10, 2016 on your calendars and come out and support your OLP community!
