Athletics Update

Spring Sports Registration Due February 8
If you are planning to tryout for a spring sports team, please complete the online registration by February 8, 2018. If you have already turned in your current physical (dated after June 1, 2017) to the school, there is no need to upload it. Once your account has been reviewed, you will get an email from Coach Blackbourn with an emergency card attached . Please print and have it signed by a parent/guardian. Please bring this print-out to your coach on the first day of tryouts. You must turn this into your coach in order to tryout. As a reminder, you will still need to complete this process even if you played a fall or winter sport. Please email Coach Blackbourn with any questions at [email protected].   

CSJ Athletics in full force
On Saturday, January 27, OLP welcomed our sister school Saint Joseph High School from Lakewood, CA.  JV and Varsity teams from both soccer and basketball competed throughout the day.  After the competitions, both school got together as one CSJ community for dinner at the OLP campus.  It was a great day for both schools as we celebrated our mutual CSJ mission.  

Pilots make it a  sweep!
Pilot golfers’ Catalin Yturralde ‘19 and Brooke Ryback ‘21 swept the Girl’s Divisions this weekend in the first San Diego County Junior Golf full field (Scott Simpson Junior) event of the year. Catalin won the Championship Division and Brooke won the 13-14 Division.  Go Pilots!

Basketball

JV: The JV Pilots have had a great season so far.  They have currently stand at 12-7 overall including three very tough tournaments in the pre-season.  They are 4-2 in league play only falling to Scripps Ranch and Cathedral.  
 
Varsity: The Pilots have entered this years season with a new look lead by Juniors Bailey Gehler, Gabrielle Dixon, Allison Stowe & Madison Lunde. They’ve had a very busy non conference schedule participating in the Matador Classic, Lady Lion Classic in Palm Springs and the Bonita Gold Crown Tournament. In tournament play the Pilots have finished 4th (Matador Classic), 3rd (Lady Lion Classic) & 3rd (Bonita Gold Crown Tournament). The Pilots opened western league play in what is considered the toughest league in San Diego.
 
Soccer

JV: The JV soccer team stands at 7-2-4. Their top scorers so far this season are Jennie Burruss ‘21 (7 goals), Chrysthante Frangos ‘21 (6 goals), Alex Carranza ‘21 (6 goals), and Hailey Bahoura ‘20 (6 goals). They are looking to add wins to their record and stay competitive the rest of the season!
 
Varsity: The Pilots Varsity soccer team has won 11 games in a row including our first three league games.  They are now 11-0-2 overall and 3-0-0 in league play.  They are currently ranked number 5 in the county!

 
Water Polo
 
Varsity: The Varsity squad honored their senior teammates Rachel Amaral, Lauren Amaral, and Emilia Perez-Rocha at their game against Serra on Thursday, January 25th.  These three seniors were pivotal in making OLP Water Polo a reality.  Their passion for the game and their commitment to their school will last long after they leave OLP.  For that, we are so grateful for their contributions to OLP Athletics.
 
JV:  JV Water Polo has experienced great improvements and have developed into excellent players. They are halfway done with their league games and are looking forward to steadily improving through the last five games of the season. The Pilots have competed in remarkable games against Serra and Mission Bay and hope to play well against Mission Bay again in the upcoming game.
