At OLP, we are blessed with an average faculty year of service of 17 years. It is an incredible testament to the living mission and charism of our school. Every year we see members of our faculty and staff leaving for retirement, family moves or heading into a new chapter in their life. Just this past week, I was informed of a member of our OLP family who will be heading on to an amazing new calling.
Last week, Mr. John Galvan informed me that as of this summer, he would officially be leaving OLP after 20 incredible years of service. He remains a part of our Diocesan family, moving on to the role of Director of the Office of Schools for the Diocese of San Diego. With the recent announcement of Tom Beecher’s retirement, this presented an amazing opportunity for John. He will continue to support OLP through this transition while simultaneously working with Tom Beecher to prepare for his new role.
John Galvan, in a letter to the community, shares the following: “I want you to know that the CSJ charism of ‘excellence tempered by gentleness, peace and joy’ has been, and will continue to be, my inspiration. Our CSJ spirit will go with me and influence any work that I take on in this educational ministry. To every person I have ever met, every face I have ever seen, and every voice I have ever heard in connection to the beautiful work of OLP, thank you”. You can read John’s full letter here.
It is of course with great sadness that we say goodbye to John, but also with great joy for the next chapter in his journey. Over the years at OLP, John has served as the Interim Principal, Vice Principal, an administrator, department chair, teacher, advisor, retreat director, athletic coach, club moderator, and much more! Please join me in extending our gratitude and thanks to John for his 20 years of dedicated service to the Academy of Our Lady of Peace.
In examining the many roles and responsibilities that John Galvan filled as the Vice Principal, it became apparent that we needed to look at the organizational chart and identify a partner in supporting the day-to-day operations of the school. Therefore, I have appointed Jessica Hooper as the new Assistant Head of School. She will continue to serve as the primary director of admissions overseeing all enrollment management. New duties include those leadership and management responsibilities that so often fell upon the shoulders of the Vice Principal. It is important to me that faculty, staff, students and parents have support systems in place to answer their questions, and provide direction. Jessica will be that partner for us as the new Assistant Head of School.
We will be listing immediately an open position for the Assistant Principal of Instruction. Interested candidates can learn more about the posting on our school’s website.
We will celebrate John Galvan at our Baccalaureate Mass on Thursday, and join together in prayer for him as he takes on this exciting new position in service to all students across the Diocese of San Diego.
Peace and many blessings to all of you this summer!
Head of School
