Junior Ambassadors Prepare for 2017-18

By Kaiya Alverez ’18 and Ariel Bartolome ’18

The Junior Ambassadors and Senior Mentors have been hard at work preparing for the new year. Junior Ambassadors is a leadership program that helps students connect to colleges and college reps that come visit our campus every year. They also host the Jesuit Fair and OLP College Fair in October, where over 100 colleges come to campus. The program is led by Mrs. Wyatt and Head JA’s, Kaiya Alvarez ’18 and Ariel Bartolome ’18. The Head JA’s coordinate 12 Senior Mentors as well as 14 juniors.

At our orientation last week, the Senior Mentors trained the juniors, “showing them the ropes” of the program. We began with an icebreaker activity, which led into demonstrations of what good and bad college interviews look like. After this, the juniors showed off what they learned by researching a college and facilitating a mock interview, with one Senior Mentor acting as a college rep and another Senior Mentor critiquing them.

There are a lot of great student leaders who are enthusiastic about taking charge and helping fellow students in all aspects of the college process. Catch us around campus in our gray JA sweatshirts, or on PTV for our bi-weekly segments, where we remind students of application deadlines, upcoming college visits, and answer any questions from the student body.

Our first college visit of the school year is September 5 at 9:00 am from Manhattanville College (NY). We look forward to taking this program to new heights this year and are excited to help our fellow Pilots with all things college!
