May Newsletter: State of the Arts

Thanks to the OLP community for the wonderful support of The Little Mermaid, Jr. We had three sold out shows, and one near sellout! Thanks to a marvelous cast and crew, and we’re particularly grateful to the Saints guys who showed up to crew! The proceeds from the show will be used to help take 11 OLP and Saints students to Thespian conference, June 23-29 in Lincoln, Nebraska. There they see shows, go to workshops and college fairs, audition for scholarships, and experience college life with over 3,000 like-minded students.

Next fall, the Drama Department is producing Thoroughly Modern Millie from Nov. 14-22.This is a fun show with great music and plenty of roles! Join Millie Dillmount of Salinas, Kansas as she comes to New York for the first time in 1922 and searches for a new life for herself. Auditions will be August 19th, 20th, and 21st after school.

Newly elected Thespian officers for 2014-2015 include Co-Presidents Vanessa Rebeil and Belle Parra, VP’s Andrea Cervantes and Jordan Stewart, Secretary Veronica Marquez, Co-Treasurers Torrey Schenewerk and Dana Price, Publicists Keara Kirkpatrick and Grace Newton, and  Co-Commissioners of Activities Rachel Rougas and Susana Alvarado. We congratulate them, and we are looking forward to a great year of theatre in the fall!
