New Faculty and Staff 2014-2015
Please help me in welcoming the new OLP faculty and staff!
Ms. Dawn Brannman will be coming onboard as OLP’s new Service Learning & Retreats Coordinator, as well as a part-time teaching member of the Religious Studies Department. Ms. Brannman has worked in nearly every facet of Campus Ministry, Retreats, Service Learning, Religious Studies/Theology and Parish ministry during her time at Cathedral Catholic High School, Yuma Catholic High School, and St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church. Ms. Brannman earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theology and History, and a Certification in Youth Ministry, from St. Mary College. Ms. Brannman grew up in Helena, Montana. In addition to Glacier National Park being her favorite place to visit, she has visited more than 120 Catholic Churches in 7 countries and 15 states.
Mr. Brent Garriepy completed his B.A. in Secondary Education, Mathematics, at Rhode Island College after studying Applied Mathematics at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Mr. Garriepy arrives in San Diego and at OLP with his wife and 9-month old son after serving as both teacher and chair of the Mathematics Department at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance since 2007. In addition to having middle school experience, Mr. Garriepy has taught everything at the high school level from Algebra 1A to AP Calculus BC. Raised in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Mr. Garriepy has been a competitive swimmer since high school, has coached swim and small-boat sailing,plays both acoustic and bass guitars, and he also enjoys detailing cars.
Ms. Sheelah Keeter will be taking on the administrative role of Assistant Principal of Instruction. Ms. Keeter was born and raised in San Diego and comes to us from Scripps Ranch High School. She attended San Diego State University and the University of Hawaii, earning a B.A. in Literature, an M.A. in Education, a single-subject English credential, an administrative credential in Educational Leadership, and she is continuing to work on a second M.A. in Literature. Ms. Keeter has taught literature for grades 9-12 to students with diverse backgrounds, including: GATE/Gifted, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, AVID, EDL, and Special Education students. Her background also includes extensive research in educational best practices, as well as actively leading professional development opportunities and training for educators on the topics of differentiated instruction, higher order thinking skills, and technology supported learning. To balance her life, Ms. Keeter is a practitioner of yoga, scuba diving, hiking and bike riding. Ms. Keeter is eager to be in a rigorous, faith-based, single-gender learning environment. Her middle school daughter is excited about eventually attending OLP like her grandmother and aunt!
Mrs. Stacy Lewis is no stranger to OLP as she has been coaching OLP’s JV Volleyball team and assisting with the Track & Field throwing team since 2012. She will assume a new role as a full-time teaching member of the Physical Education Department. Mrs. Lewis comes to OLP with experience in teaching P.E. from K-12, but most recently, as a part-time teaching member at Iftin Charter School. Along with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (with emphasis in Physical Education), Mrs. Lewis has earned her California Teaching Credential-Single Subject in Physical Education and CIF Coaches Certification. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Lewis has called San Diego home for the last 15 years. When she is not teaching, coaching, or spending time with her husband and four children, you may just find her behind a microphone singing karaoke!
Mrs. Tina Martinez will be joining us as our new Director of Finance. Tina has over 20 years of accounting experience. As a graduate from the University of San Diego with a Bachelor of Accountancy, she has earned her Certified Public Accountant license with the State of California, and has worked in public accounting, private, and non-profit industries. Most recently, Tina has been serving as the Assistant Director of Finance at St. Augustine High School.
Ms. Kerry Stanko will be making the move from University of San Diego, where she earned her B.A. in Mathematics with Secondary Education Emphasis and Single-Subject Mathematics Teaching Credential, to her new home at OLP as a member of the Mathematics Department. Ms. Stanko originates from Geneva, Illinois, and comes from a family of educators, including her mother who recently retired as a college professor of Office Technology. Ms. Stanko believes strongly in creating a classroom culture of student support, whereby students gain confidence in a welcoming and appreciative environment. In addition to experience in real-world applications, Ms. Stanko is interested in creating innovative ways for students to learn math in an interdisciplinary way while incorporating Common Core ideas. As a high school student, Ms. Stanko was an athlete, participating in swim, dance and Track & Field.
Ms. Kelly Schnorr is a working artist who brings to OLP not only field experience in the visual arts, but the experience of teaching both two-dimensional and three-dimensional design courses at Palomar College, Grossmont College, and San Diego State University. Ms. Schnorr earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University Chico and a Master of Fine Arts from San Diego State University. She actively exhibits her work locally and nationally and was a Project Network Artist in Residence at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark.
Mr. Jason Tucker joins us as the new Database and Records Manager in the Office of Institutional Advancement. Jason, grandson of former AOLP math teacher Chuck Tucker, is our new Database and Records Administrator in the Office of Institutional Advancement. He comes to AOLP after several years as a teacher and student database administrator for San Diego Virtual School, an online charter school. A San Diego native, Jason completed a double major in Music Education and Spanish, as well as his teaching credential at Point Loma Nazarene University. Outside of AOLP, Jason regularly performs as a flamenco guitarist for several flamenco dance studios throughout San Diego.
Mrs. Allison Weatherford enters OLP as our new Assistant Athletics Director. There isn’t a single high school sport that Mrs. Weatherford has not literally had her hand in, as she has been a Certified Athletic Trainer for 18 years. In addition to her most recent role at Cathedral Catholic High School, Mrs. Weatherford brings a wealth of experience from 3 Olympic Games as a member of the USA Medical Team. Mrs. Weatherford is originally from northern Michigan and went on to ski collegiately at University of New Hampshire where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (with a minor in Nutrition) and is currently finishing her Masters of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University. During her free time, she enjoys the chaos and excitement of having 4 young boys at home.
Mrs. Bridgette Will joins OLP as a part-time teaching member of the Social Studies Department and as a new member of our coaching team for both Cross Country and Track & Field. Mrs. Will comes to OLP from King-Chavez Community High School where she has taught and chaired the Social Studies Department since 2011. She has earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from USC, and from Towson University, Mrs. Wills earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Minors in both Spanish and International Studies. She loves yoga and dogs, and she is in a perpetual state of planning a trip to one of the state capitols, as she is trying to visit them all.
