On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, OLP will host the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The statue was sculpted in 1947 by Jose Thedim, based on the description of Sr. Lucia, one of the three young seers who saw Our Lady each month from May to October 1917 in Fatima, Portugal. On October 13, 1947, in the presence of some 150,000 pilgrims, the statue was blessed by the Bishop of Leiria at Fatima to be the pilgrim, the traveler. Sent out to bring the Message of Fatima to the world, the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue has traveled the world many times, visiting more than 100 countries.
We will begin the day with an 8:00 am school-wide liturgical celebration in the Holy Family Event Center. The statue will be available for viewing during our liturgy and in the OLP chapel throughout the day. Students are invited to participate in the rosary prayer during the lunch hour. At 2:30 pm the custodian of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will offer a presentation for students, parents and members of the OLP community. If you would like to participate in the presentation and/or visit the OLP chapel between the hours of 2:15 pm – 3:30 pm, please check-in at the OLP front office prior to attending. Please contact Ms. Diane LaCosta, Liturgical Coordinator at [email protected] with any questions.
