RSVP for Bring Your Dad to Lunch, Thursday, September 5
OLP fathers and father-figures are invited to join their daughters for lunch on Thursday, September 5 at OLP. You may bring your own lunch or purchase lunch from the French Gourmet on campus! If you plan on attending this event, please RSVP by Tuesday, September 3. Fathers/father-figures should plan on arriving at 11:00 am. The event will end in time for students to attend their last class of the day, which starts at 12:55 pm.

Parking around campus is very difficult. We encourage you to take advantage of our off-site parking and shuttle service from Westfield Mission Valley (near the Broken Yolk and Bank of America) which will be available from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on this day.

Last Chance for OLP’s Inaugural Hackathon: Saturday, September 7
OLP’s Hackathon will be held on campus on Saturday, September 7. A Hackathon is a problem-solving event that focuses on how STEM can solve global issues using science, technology, engineering, and math. This year’s theme is centered around environmental sustainability and is open to girls in grades 8-12. Register online (scholarships available)! RSVP for Parent Education Program: Rachel Simmons on Wednesday, September 11 @ 6:30 pm
Committed to the social and emotional development of students alongside their academic growth, as a school community we look forward to hosting New York Times Best Selling author, Rachel Simmons! Parents and community members are invited to see Ms. Simmons speak at a Parent Education Evening Program on the OLP campus Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 pm in the Holy Family Event Center. Counselors’ Corner

Coffee with Counselors
The first Coffee with Counselors is scheduled for September 4 from 8-9 am in St. Catherine’s Pilot Cafe. Come learn about the grade-level programming available to support your daughter’s academic, college/career, and social/emotional needs. The counselors will also introduce freshman parents to Naviance and end with a discussion about the book Enough As She Is by Rachel Simmons. We will be live streaming this event.

College Visits Begin Next Week!
College visits begin next week. Interested Juniors and Seniors should check Naviance for more information about which colleges are coming and when. As a reminder, juniors and seniors must sign-up at least 2 school-days in advance to attend a college visit. Space is limited, so plan ahead. All sign-ups for a college visit must occur through Naviance.

To attend a college visit, you must print out the page on Naviance when you sign up and have your teacher from the block that will be missed sign it at least ONE CLASS MEETING prior. The expectation is that students are responsible for missed work/assignments.

This signed printed page from Naviance serves as your permission slip to attend the college visit. College visits will occur in the Campus Ministry room on the first floor of St. Catherine’s unless otherwise noted. Please note that visits scheduled for 11 am will take place in room 117 in Qualiato.

Student Announcements

Frosh Tailgate Friday, September 6
Frosh, come hang out with your classmates and make new friends at the annual OLP-Saints Frosh Tailgate! The Tailgate will be held on Friday, September 6 from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Mesa College Parking Lot 2. The Saints football game begins at 7:00 pm.

Tickets for the tailgate are $5 and include food, drink, and fun. The last day to purchase tailgate tickets is September 4th – don’t wait! Purchase Tickets Here! Tickets for the football game will be sold on Wednesday, September 4th at OLP during lunch and at the gate on Friday, September 6. Football game tickets are cash only and are $6 for students and $8 for adults.

OLP Homecoming 2019!
On Saturday, September 21st, OLP will host its second annual Homecoming Dance! Homecoming is a semi-formal dance for all grade levels and will be held at Party Pals (10427 Roselle Street). Check-in begins at 8:00 pm and doors will be closed from 8:30 – 10:30 pm.

Tickets for OLP’s Homecoming Dance are on sale for OLP students and their invited guests! Early bird pricing for tickets ends September 3, so purchase online early!  If an OLP student would like to invite an off-campus guest, she may print the application or pick up an application from Mrs. Antolin’s office. Students must submit their request and receive approval prior to purchasing a ticket for a guest. For more information, please visit our Homecoming 2019 page. Tickets are limited!

Model United Nations Tryouts
Interested in becoming a member of OLP’s Model United Nations (MUN) team? Please attend tryouts on Wednesday, September 4 from 12:10-12:35 pm in room CE2. Tryouts will consist of a group interview where candidates will be asked questions about their skills and general knowledge of the United Nations. Candidates could be asked one or more of the following questions: When and why was the United Nations established? What is the role of a United Nations ambassador? Why are you interested in MUN?

Tryouts will help Mrs. Devereaux and Mr. Moeller identify team researchers who are interested in specializing in particular world regions and issues. If selected, MUN team members must be available for weekly meetings on Thursdays at lunch, as well as January 25 from 7:30 am-12:00 pm, all day Saturday, March 28, and all day March 29. Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society
Are you a senior who has earned a 4.0 in your social science classes? If so, please consider applying to the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society (NSSHS) for the 2019-20 school year. In order to receive an application, candidates for membership must attend ONE of the following informational meetings: Monday, September 9 at lunch in CE2 OR Monday, September 9 after school in CE2.

At these meetings, prospective applicants will learn about the qualifications for membership, where to apply, and how to obtain teacher references. The deadline to apply for Rho Kappa NSSHS is September 16.

Humans 4 Humanity Club
Attention students! The Humans 4 Humanity is now accepting applications for leadership positions! If you are you passionate about ensuring OLP is a place full of respect, inclusion, and acceptance for all then you should apply. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, September 10. The Dear Neighbor Service Award Application Out Now
The Dear Neighbor Service Award is available to any OLP student who has demonstrated a commitment to love of the Dear Neighbor through the completion of over 100 hours of service in any one calendar year (any 12 month period). To qualify for this award, you will need to fill out this form so that your hours may be confirmed on your account. Please return this completed form to Mrs. Wilson in St. Catherine’s no later than Thursday, September 5 to be considered for this award. Volunteer Opportunity at St. Brigid on Saturday, September 28
Volunteers are needed for a food packaging event at Saint Brigid Parish on September 28 (qualifies as service hours). Students, families, and friends are invited to join others from the community to assemble meals for impoverished families. Register online.

OLP Cheer and Dance Join Forces
Cheer is excited to Tackle The Titans of Eastlake this week. After big wins by both JV & Varsity last week, the winning hopefully becomes contagious.

Last Week’s Athletics Recap
Varsity Golf remains undefeated after defeating Francis Parker for their 3rd straight victory of the season. Vivian Garcia 22 and Brooke Ryback 21 led the way for the Pilots. Ryback shot an even-par 36 to take medalist honors. JV Golf defeated the Dons of Cathedral Catholic High School by 12 shots Monday! Congratulations to Lauren Nicanor 23 for shooting a team best 40 in the match. In Tennis, Jolie Morgan 21 won all three of her sets without dropping one single game. Also coming out strong was our #2 singles player, Isabella Gelastopoulos 21, who won all three of her sets, only dropping a few games. Everyone on the team gave their all on the court to secure the win. JV Tennis kicked off this season with an epic win at Saturday’s tournament. After nine long hours in over 80 degrees, the Pilots were victorious for the second year in a row thanks to the determination and motivation from the whole team. Great job Pilots!

Looking Ahead
Cross Country is off to a good start this year led by senior captains Emma Rens 20 and Kaitlyn Coons 20. We have more than 15 freshman this year who are showing great potential. We look forward to our first race on September 6. The OLP Junior Varsity and Varsity Dance Teams will be representing OLP and Saints during the second week of home football games for St. Augustine. JV is Thursday at 3:30 pm at Saints and Varsity is at 7:00 pm at Mesa College. They will be cheering alongside our OLP Cheer Teams and performing at halftime! Our Volleyball teams started off with two home games in a row this last week. They have a match against Olympian today and a match against Scripps Ranch on Wednesday, September 4. Come Cheer on the Pilots!
