Caratan Sloper Family Student Commons

As we continue our tour of Shiley Hall, we enter our Caratan Sloper Student Commons and are immediately struck by this biophilic installation of preserved moss. In addition to serving our goal of bringing nature inside, this installation also illustrates our sisters’ of St. Joseph commitment to preservation of the earth. We commit to reduce, reuse, and recycle. How, you ask? Well, this mural is made from pieces of terrazzo flooring from the original St. Joseph’s. Walked upon by endless numbers of alumnae, it also is a special symbol of our shared history!

The Caratan Sloper Student Commons knits Shiley Hall and Navarra Hall together as the heart of our campus, allowing students an indoor place to collaborate, relax, and gather together in sisterhood. The casing of the lights above are colored in yellow, green, red, and blue in honor of each class color!

There is one final stop on this tour before you return to the Student Commons. Please proceed at this time.
