Week of February 19-23

We Pray for Parkland, Florida
O God of the Broken and Wounded,
We barely know what to ask...
It would seem as the death toll rises
So goes our tolerance, our paralysis,
Our uneasiness.
Restore and revive our spirit this day!
Strengthen our resolve
To tend the wounded,
To cradle the grieving,
To comfort the frightened,
To stop arming our fear! Amen.

This week has once again shook many of us to the core with the horrific shooting in Parkland, Florida. Yet another school shooting has impacted the lives of hundreds of individuals and robbed loved ones of the life of their beloved. Anger, dismay, frustration, sadness all flood our emotions when as educators, another school is impacted. But in general, the words to express my own grief just weren't there. That is, until this morning as I opened my email to see a prayer from CSJ, Sister Joan (seen above). And so, when words escape, I turn to our Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to guide us.

I share this with you today as certainly a juxtaposition for the joy we are in the throngs of with Spring Sing. To see our beautiful girls come together - those performing and those that will be in the audience to support. To see the many faculty and staff, parents, alumnae, grandparents, perspective families and students, little kids, friends, all come together to enjoy a night of musical extravaganza. These are the glorious moments to celebrate in education, where after the toil of rehearsal the joy of the final performance abounds.

I thank you all as parents and guardians for the many ways you love our girls, acknowledge their gifts and help guide them on this journey. And today, may we also remember in our prayers those suffering at the hand of another horrific tragedy.
May God bless and keep us, St. Joseph watch over us and our Our Lady of Peace pray for us!
