Welcome Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) Team

After a three year process of data collection, analysis and review, OLP will be welcoming the visiting committee responsible for our co-accreditation by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) starting on Sunday, March 11th. This accreditation process occurs on a six-year cycle pending a full accreditation. Over the course of these past few years, Board of Directors, faculty, staff, parents and students have worked on collecting WCEA/WASC-specific data, analyzing the data, and completing our self-study report. New this year, the entire report will be online with live links to our findings. Members of the visiting team include Nancy Coonis, WCEA Chair; Matthew Cordes, Department of Schools at the Diocese of San Diego; Sandy Blackstone-Gardner, Theology teacher at Cathedral Catholic High School; Frank Stingo, AP of Curriculum at Mater Dei High School; and Kevin Cushing, Principal at Carondelet High School.
 
Sunday, March 11th:
Welcome reception including OLP Executive Leadership Team, parents, members of the Board of Directors and faculty; Specific meetings with OLP WCEA Leadership Team and members of the Board of Directors
 
Monday, March 12th:
Meetings with specific Integral Groups on Catholic Identity, School Organization, Teaching and Learning and lunch with the Student Curriculum Council
 
Tuesday, March 13th:
Meetings with Parents in Prayer, specific Departments, Integral Groups on Material Stewardship, Student Support, and lunch with Student Club Leaders
 
Wednesday, March 14th (School Early Dismissal at 12:45 pm):
WCEA visiting committee work time; Lunch with faculty, staff, Board of Directors, WCEA parent and student representatives; Presentation of the Final Report and Celebration
 
Please continue to hold OLP up in your thoughts and prayers during this exciting week! WCEA visiting committee team members will be visiting classrooms, viewing student work samples and learning about our school community! In celebration, the school will be closed on Friday, March 16th. Thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing the initial findings following Wednesday's presentation.

The webcast will begin this Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 1:45 p.m. PDT with the Service of Remembrance followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 2:30 p.m. PDT.
 
Father Daughter Honky Tonk

Dust off your cowboy boots! Ask your dad or father figure to save the date: Friday, April 13th from 7-10pm. All 9-12 students are invited to a honky tonk country dance on our lovely OLP campus! You and your dad will have an awesome time learning some line dances and eating tasty fair-themed food. There will be awards for the best duo's dance moves and country-costumes! You are welcome to gather up a few friends and attend as a group with one dad. Join us for a boot stompin' good time! Attire: Country casual! Jeans and dresses are encouraged. (No bare midriffs, low-cut or backless tops, no shorts). Tickets sales coming soon!

OLP Transportation 2018-19

Route 1: 5 North to the Del Mar area
Route 2: 15 North to Scripps Ranch area
Route 3: 805 South to the San Ysidro border and Chula Vista area
Pick up time: 7:00 am
Return: leaves OLP at 3:30 pm on regular schedule days and 1:30 pm on early dismissal days
Cost for OLP students is $800 annually; additional OLP siblings will be $600 each; each route can accommodate 9 passengers. The transportation fee will be charged in full through your FACTS account with your scheduled August tuition payment.

Athletic Transportation per season - $95, this is reserved via a lottery system at the beginning of each season.

2018-19 Enrollment Information

OLP is again partnering with School Admin for enrollment of all returning students for the 2018-19 school year. School Admin online streamlines enrollment by integrating with your current OLP FACTS account and affords a central site for completing and submitting required forms for enrollment such as Contact Information Form, Emergency Contact Form, etc. The deadline to electronically sign your Tuition Agreement, pay your non-refundable registration fee and activate your FACTS account is Monday, March 19, 2018. Learn more.

Join us in Valle de Guadalupe!
Join the OLP Community on  April 22 for a family day in the Valle de Guadalupe in Mexico.  We hope you will join us for a bilingual mass in a beautiful outdoor chapel, followed by family-style lunch with music, all while celebrating OLP. The OLP / SAHS Junior Boat Dance Is Right Around the Corner
We would love for you to join your class for this very special event! The OLP/SAHS Junior Boat Dance will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 7:00-11:00 pm at the Bahia Hotel (998 W Mission Bay Dr, San Diego, CA 92109). Juniors will board the William D. Evans Sternwheeler starting at 7:00 pm for an exciting boat cruise around the San Diego Bay. The event will include dinner, dessert, a live DJ, a photo booth, and plenty of time to catch up with your friends. Attire is semi-formal. Tickets are $75 per person. Junior Boat Dance Agreement Forms and Off-Campus Guest Applications are available outside Mrs. Conroy's office. Please submit the agreement form and guest application prior to purchasing a ticket. Tickets will be on sale starting on Monday, February 26th. The last day to purchase a ticket is Tuesday, March 13th at 11:59 pm.
 
STEM Speaker at OLP Library March 13th

As part of the STEM Speaker Series, come to the Library on March 13th at lunch for an amazing Skype visit with Ivanna Escala! Ms. Escala is a third year graduate student and NSF/Ford Graduate Research Fellow at the California Institute of Technology in the Department of Astronomy. She is currently working with Phil Hopkins and Evan Kirby on galactic chemical evolution. Learn more about her here.

Upcoming Local Immersion Trips!
In March, OLP will be offering several local immersion experiences to interested students. On March 10, we will be taking a day trip to Tijuana, open to students of all grade levels. On March 17-18, members of the junior and senior classes are invited to participate in an overnight San Diego immersion. Keep an eye out next week for more specific information on the trip itineraries and how to sign up. Spots will be limited to 7-8 participants on each trip and will be decided on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
Peer Tutoring is Back!
Student tutors from our National Honor Society are available Monday through Thursday during lunch (12:05 - 12:50 pm) and after school (2:30 - 3:15 pm) starting February 5. Tutoring is being offered in almost every subject and there is no need to make an appointment, students can just stop by the Student Commons and our Peer Tutors will be happy to help! Softball
 
JV: Last Saturday, the Pilots came up short to University City although Mallory Downing '21 had a stand out game. On Tuesday, they had an exciting game with a 12-5 win over Valhalla. Downing, Senoff '20 and Jordan Williams '20 all showed a great performance. The entire team has come a long way in just the 2 short weeks. They are looking forward to their growing as a team throughout the season.
 
Varsity: Last Friday, the Pilots came up 2 runs short to University City. Marin Musicant '18 pitched a great game to Isabella Buckley '21. On Saturday, the team traveled to Calexico High School. Kelsey Way '18 pitched a great game to Kayley Gibbons '18. The Pilots showed a great defensive game. Jenny Massey '18 had two great catches in right field while Musicant had an amazing diving catch for her team at 1st base contributing to their 9-0 win. On Tuesday, the Pilots beat Valhalla 8-4. Way and Musicant's pitching complimented each other well. Both seniors also hit homeruns to secure the win. The team secured another win on Wednesday against High Tech 4-3. Musicant pitched yet another great game to catcher Gibbons. Megan Curiel '19, was a stand out player in left field as well as offensively. The Varsity Pilots are undefeated in the Cougar Classic Tournament and are expected to make it to the playoffs tomorrow!
 
Soccer
What an amazing week for OLP Soccer. Last Saturday, with a 4-0 win over El Camino High School, the Pilots were named the CIF San Diego Section 2018 Division II Champions, for the second year in a row!  As the #3 seed, they advanced to the 2018 CIF Southern California Regional Soccer Championships where they beat Mayfair High School 2-1. Last night, they traveled to Garden Grove, CA to face the #2 seed Pacifica High School. With a complete shutout, the Pilots won 4-0. The Pilots are headed to the CIF Southern California Regional State Championship game on Saturday, March 10 at 6:00 pm where they will face Flintridge Prep of La Canada, CA. The game will be held at St. Francis High School (200 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011) and tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for children (5+), students (ASB card), and seniors (65+).
 

Lacrosse
The Varsity Pilots have showed tremendous growth since tryouts. Last Friday, they had a tough 5-16 loss against Mission Hills. Bailey Gehler '19 had 5 goals while Jenelle Cedillo '20 had 19 saves in goal.
