Welcome to New Faculty & Staff Members

OLP welcomes nine new faculty and staff members to the OLP Community! Our five, new, and dynamic educators are: Diane La Costa (art), Johnathan Chittuluru, (engineering), Jenny Rodriguez (math), Amber Basile (American Sign Language), and Jenine Winslow (science). In addition to these highly unique teachers, are four talented new staff members: Samantha Quinsey (Events Coordinator), Erica Huebner (Admissions Coordinator), Victor Garza Jr. (Maintenance), and Alejandra Alfaro (Assistant Librarian).

Jennifer Rodriguez, joining the Math Department, attended UCSD, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in math, and a Master’s Degree in education. Jenny has experience teaching all levels of math including AP calculus. Jenny was a part of a team that built curriculum for engineering and STEM education. Jenny describes herself as an innovator, providing interactive, collaborative, and engaging assignments for students. In addition to her academic qualifications, she has experience as a softball, volleyball, and canoeing coach. She also played centerfield for the UCSD’s women’s softball team for four years where she was awarded, All League, All Region, Most Valuable Player, and UCSD’s Athlete of the Year. In addition to her athletic and academic talents, Jenny volunteers to serve others. She spent two years in Palau as a missionary teacher.

Diane La Costa, joining the Visual and Performing Arts Department, attended Catholic University of America earning a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture and La Salle University, where she earned a Master’s Degree in project management. Diane is the owner of La Costa Coastal Art Etsy, exhibited at Studio Maureen, South Park, and North Park. She is also a project manager for Nate & Bailey Press where she crafts the artwork for cards and children’s books, as well as maintaining websites and social media. Diane brings experience from Barcelona Spain, where she worked as a Social Media Strategist, a Publisher, and a Creative Content Producer for the Go-With-Oh and O-Barcelona websites. Diane wrote, reviewed and edited daily articles about Spain and Spanish culture for the company, Spaingivers. In Diane’s free-time she enjoys travel, architecture, oil and watercolor painting and cooking.

Erica Huebner, Admissions Coordinator, received a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from USD. In Pasadena she began her experience in secondary school admissions, also her alma mater, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls, Catholic High School. From there she served as the Director of Admissions, at Marymount High School in Los Angeles. She relocated to San Diego and knew, based on her prior experiences, that OLP was the perfect fit for her! When not working, she enjoys time with her husband and her two young children, Ryan and Emily.

Jenine Winslow, joining the Science Department, attended Montana State University, San Diego State University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of arts in business economics, and a Master’s Degree of science in biology, earth and planetary science. Jenine organized the first annual science fair, at the previous high school where she worked. Jenine is passionate about teaching, which she feels is best illustrated by the following quote, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge”—Albert Einstein.

Samantha Quinsey, the new Events Coordinator, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education from San Diego State University; where she graduated with distinction. Samantha gained valuable experience working for several local schools and nonprofit organizations. Most recently, she served as Director of Contracts for, I Love A Clean San Diego. Samantha supervised a complex program and event implementation during her four-year tenure, including public education and outreach initiatives for multiple government agencies. Samantha is passionate about environmental conservation, performing arts, and serving her community. She is honored and excited to join the OLP staff and support a mission that empowers women as leaders.

Johnathan Chittuluru, joining the Computer Science Department, graduated from Cornell University, with honors in chemistry and biology. Johnathan also attended, The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla where he earned a PhD in computational structural biology. More recently, Johnathan has worked as a chemistry teacher at two highly acclaimed college preparatory schools: Deerfield Academy, The La Jolla Country Day School. He currently works at High Tech High; where he is a full-time test preparation instructor. In Johnathan’s time away from work, he enjoys golfing, and coaching football. He has a unique talent in singing and performed in Tarana, Cornell’s only a cappella choir that specializes in Hindi film music.

Victor M. Garza Jr., is our newest member of our Maintenance Department, is a native San Diegan, having graduated from Point Loma High School. He has dedicated several years to working as a maintenance technician, requiring hands-on experience and knowledge of the techniques, tools and materials required to complete maintenance related tasks. He also has experience as a broadband test specialist. A particularly unique talent Victor maintains is in carpentering, which he pursues outside of his work time, building all of his own furniture from scratch. In addition to carpentering, Victor enjoys participation in outdoor activities, such as camping and hiking.

Amber Basile, joining the World Language Department, attended St. Catherine’s University, and St. Paul, in Minnesota where she received a Bachelor’s in American Sign Language, interpreting. Amber has acquired experience in teaching, tutoring and freelance interpreting for events, philanthropies and in various classroom settings, from middle to high school. Amber utilizes her skills to serve others—interpreting for groups for cancer awareness, deaf community services of San Diego, Deaf Awareness Day, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at University of Minnesota. In addition to service Amber was a member of the college greek system, later serving as the Director of Alumnae for Alpha Phi of Delta Chi.

Alejandra Alfaro, joining the library staff, as an Assistant Librarian, attended University of California and received a Bachelor’s in human development and psychology. She has gained experience by working at the San Diego Public Library, and UCSD Center for Environment Health and Safety. Alejandra has many service commitments, one of which is at California’s Children Service South, working as a physical and occupational therapy volunteer, and at a rehabilitation center, Rancho Los Amigos, volunteering in the Pediatric Occupational Therapy Department. Additional talents are that Alejandra is fluent in Spanish and time spent away from work and service, allows her opportunities to work with two of her passions, arts and crafts.
