History Book Club December Meeting
By Izzy Barba ’22, Kyra Martin-Spencer ’22, Claire Scelfo ’24, and Jordan Smith ’24

Throughout the course of the first semester, OLP’s History Book Club members were thrilled to return to in-person meetings, especially after a school year spent connecting solely through Zoom. We engaged with the book The Song of Achilles in October, viewed the film The Imitation Game together in November, and most recently in December, discussed the book The Only Woman in the Room. The Socratic seminar for The Only Woman in the Room was extremely insightful and informative, giving each member an opportunity to share their unique opinions regarding the story of Hedy Lamarr. As a group, we examined the convoluted influences of beauty on someone’s life, value of intellectual property over common good, and the importance of including the complexity and multifaceted nature of real people in historical fiction. Looking ahead, we will be reading Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix. We look forward to discussing the complexity of history through literature in this next semester of History Book Club. If you are a student interested in joining us for our next meeting, please email [email protected] and [email protected]!
