For the fifth year in a row, the Humans 4 Humanity Club has led our school community in earning a “No Place for Hate” designation from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). In order to earn this designation, student leaders must have community members sign an “NPFH Resolution Poster” and lead at least three schoolwide activities to engage students in learning about how to create a more equitable and inclusive community. Student leaders must design original activities and submit them for approval through the ADL. Once approved, the student leaders promote and conduct the activities and submit a follow-up reflection with evidence to the ADL. This year’s leadership team faced unusual challenges due to COVID-19, but persevered and educated the OLP community about such issues as how to engage in civil discourse, how to identify and prevent cyber-bullying, the history and impact of the Black Lives Matter movement, the human rights issues women face worldwide, how to be an ally in a time of anti-Asian hate, and the concepts of intent vs. impact and microaggressions. Congratulations to the entire team and their efforts to ensure OLP is “No Place for Hate!” We are so proud of your active work to promote social justice, equity, and inclusion!
