Since January, the Model United Nations team has been preparing for the first-ever OLP Model UN Conference on Thursday, March 24, and the annual Rotary District 5340 Model UN Conference – the largest Model UN conference in the county – from Saturday, April 2 to Sunday, April 3. As delegates, Model UN members devote countless hours to researching their respective assigned countries and their political, economic, geographic, and social characteristics. During the conferences, delegates deliver timed speeches, negotiate resolutions in caucus groups, present uniquely amended clauses, and vote on final amendments to simulate the humanitarian responsibility of the UN General Assembly. With 28 total members, the Model UN team is proud and excited to pioneer the first OLP-exclusive conference and later attend the first in-person Rotary Conference held in two years.
