Soccer
The Varsity soccer team is well into their season with an overall record of 5-2-3. The talented team faces rival Cathedral Catholic and Mission Bay soon as they move into the second half of their competitive league. Goal scoring is led by Haley Phillips ’22 with seven goals and Sydney Pack ’21, Lily Strack ’21, and Hannah Vazquez ’21 have secured their goal from the back. Their defense is kept steady by Sarah Melcher ’22 and Brooke Gierczak ’22. The Pilots midfielders and forwards continue to work better together each game and it is amazing to see how the team dynamics continue to make a difference both on and off the field. Varsity Pilots had the opportunity to take part in OLP’s first-ever Varsity Media Day! All the players who participated had such a great time and those who will be returning next year look forward to making this a tradition. Looking to secure a playoff spot, the Pilots are hard at work in practice and are grateful for the support of their dedicated fans.

The JV soccer team is off to a great start with a 2-1-0 record in the league. The JV Pilots worked hard to earn victories against both Mission Bay (3-0) and Point Loma (3-2) with goals scored by Rose Riley ‘24, Madie Bergener ‘24, Hayden Carter ‘23, and Jade Dickow ‘24. Our team keeps improving on moving the ball and working together as a solid team thanks to our talented midfield and unstoppable defense. We are excited to move into the second half of our league season. Keep it up, Pilots!

Softball
OLP varsity softball has spent the past month learning to play as 1 unit while preparing for League play. This high-scoring offense has already produced 6 home runs and 52 runs in just 7 games. They are hoping that strong pitching and their explosive offense will carry them through the league.

Cheer
The OLP/STA cheerleaders are back under the Friday night lights, cheering on their teams to victory! At the Cathedral vs Saints football game, nine wonderful seniors were recognized: Catalina Cruz, Lola Diaz, Vanessa Figueroa, Jayla Florance, Olivia Greene, Yasmeen Konja, Jessica Kuhn, Gabby Quinto, and Jillian Winfree. These Pilots will be missed in their next season but we pray for them as they continue on to their next chapters in life. Our team would like to say, “GO PILOTS!”

Dance
The OLP Dance Team is preparing for their Annual Dance Showcase, which will be a virtual event this year, on Friday, May 7. The show will feature their amazing competition routines from the 2020-2021 season, performances from Mrs. Culver’s dance classes, and student choreography. The show will be Livestreamed for friends and family to enjoy. More details to come! The showcase will mark the end of our season (and what a season it was!) and auditions for our 2021-2022 teams will be held on May 19 and 20.

Esports
The Esports gamers are right in the heart of their spring season, playing games such as Rocket League, Fifa, and Ultimate Smash Brothers! They have fostered amazing in-game team communication and even acquired a few wins. They are hoping to share the joy and fun of being in Esports with everyone and are enthusiastically looking for new members to join.

Tennis
The OLP Varsity Pilots have had a very busy and successful season so far! After Spring break, they played La Jolla. It was a very tough loss with a score of 8-9. Similarly, it was a very close match with Coronado where they lost by one match once again. Despite these very competitive and tough losses, the OLP and Saints teams have had continuous successes which include Cathedral (10-7), Patrick Henry (10-7), and Scripps Ranch (11-6). Each player has contributed to an overall successful season along with the Saintsmen. We can’t wait to cheer our varsity pilots on for the rest of their season! The OLP and Saints JV tennis team has had an amazing season so far! Each member of the team has contributed to their hard-fought wins, which include Cathedral (9-8) and Patrick Henry (14-3). Awesome job, Pilots! They have also had some tough losses against La Jolla (6-11) and Scripps Ranch (6-11). The rest of their season should be filled with close matches and great tennis.

Golf
The Varsity Golf Team, now 6-2, has continued its successful season with recent victories over league rivals Point Loma and La Jolla. The highlight of the season thus far came when the Pilots shot their lowest team score of the season to defeat perennial league champions Scripps Ranch by three strokes. Frosh Sienna Duggan and senior Brooke Ryback both shot 38 to lead the way for the Pilots, along with season-low scores from juniors Maya Mendoza and Vivian Garcia. Brooke Ryback has also shot two-under-par 34 not once, but twice, in the past two weeks as she continues to lead the Pilot Golfers.

Track & Field
Track & Field started off the season with some obstacles, but, as a team, they overcame everything in their paths. So far the team has two wins! They have won against Mission Bay High School and San Diego High School.

We are Pilot Warriors! The conversations we have are not just for track but for life’s journey. Coach T says, “There are no special athletes, we are ALL special (body, mind, & spirit). We end practice in prayer & school spirit chant.” Our season is short but our journey is endless. Go Pilots!

Lacrosse
Lacrosse kicked off our season with a win against Mission Bay High School 10-7. Junior Cameron LaMarca and sophomore Emily Engler were our leading scorers with 4 goals each. Frosh goalie Dani Rodgers had 6 saves. We are looking forward to a fun season ahead!

Basketball
After a 14 month layoff, the Pilot Hoopers are back in the gym and off and running. The Varsity Pilots are led this year by seniors Mallory Downing, Chloe James, Claire Nowicki, and Laura Vazquez. After a 0-3 start and some tight games against D1 schools Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch and El Capitan, the Pilots beat city conference rival Mission Bay to get their first win. The Pilots could make some serious noise in the Eastern League and Division 2 this year.

Swim
The OLP Pilot’s swim team has had an awesome 2021 season with some huge dual meet wins and some incredible times, while having a ton of fun in and out of the water! We finished off our season against Scripps Ranch High School and celebrated our eight seniors as best as they possibly could. CIF Swim Championships was initially canceled, however, it is back on! Congratulations to the girls who qualified and wish them lots of luck: Tatiana Ambrosius ’24, Ava Bayne ’24, Jenifer Dalessio ’24, Grace Davis ’24, Annie Hammes ’24, Francesca La Marca ’22, and Chloe Vargas (Brodin) ’24. They are so excited for all that is to come!

Volleyball
Volleyball ended their short one-month season and celebrated senior night on their last Varsity Game against Point Loma High School. OLP Volleyball celebrated Anna Andreu ’21, Nisa Galvan ’21, Fiorella Hunter ’21, and Grace McSheffery ’21. We wish them all the best in the future!
