Cheer/Dance
The OLP Dance Team has had a busy start to the year but it is so great to be back performing in front of a crowd and doing what they love! They have been cheering on the Saintsmen alongside the OLP Cheer Team at all Saints home football games and look forward to a few more games throughout the month of October. They have also been performing at OLP pep rallies and events, and want to thank everyone for their love and support in the crowd. The OLP Dance Team starts competing in January, and they have already begun learning & rehearsing their competition routines. This year they are bringing in choreographers from all over the US, with credits that include dancers and choreographers from World of Dance, The Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil Vegas show, NBA Chicago Bulls Dance Team, NBA LA Clippers Dance Team, SDSU Dance Team, and more. It’s going to be a great season and they hope to bring home more wins to the OLP Pilot community!

Cross Country
The 2021 Cross Country team is off to a great start. After placing first in both JV and Varsity races last week, the team went on to compete in the Mt. Carmel Invitational. The event draws runners from all over the state. OLP had three athletes place in the top ten finishers of their race. Sophia Brigida ’23 placed 10th in the D2 juniors race, Annie Hammes ’24 placed 9th in the D2 sophomore race, and Alexis Valderrama ’25 placed 1st in the D2 freshman race. Congratulations also go out to Ella Jones ’23, Shyla Ciampa ’23, Olivia Shull ’24, Noah Santos ’24, Jemma Jones ’25, Sofia Camerena ’25, and Jovanna Garcia ’25 who all medaled in this highly competitive meet. October will be the beginning of their league meets. Our first league meet is on Tuesday, October 5th at Morley Field. The team would love to have you cheer them on!

Golf
The Varsity Golf Team is off to an incredible 8-1 start to the season. One of the many highlights of the season thus far was heading up to the famed Torrey Pines Golf Course, home of the 2008 & 2021 US Open, to take on perennial powerhouse Scripps Ranch. While Scripps Ranch is a statistically better team, the Pilots brought their A-game and defeated their league rival by 10 strokes. The Varsity Golf Team (pictured left to right) Giselle Leon ’24, Sienna Duggan ’24, Maya Mendoza ’22, Cassidy Matwiyoff ’22, Vivian Garcia ’22, Isabella Hernandez ’23, and Aiko Santos ’23 have all been playing excellent golf, week in and week out, and look forward to continued success in October. Go, Pilots!

Tennis
JV Tennis has started off strong with 6 wins and 1 loss! The team is growing in their mental toughness and team unity, elements that help them push to fight harder and support each other. The team was tested by La Jolla High School but what needs to be highlighted was watching the team stay focused, regroup, and communicate between each other. It was very inspiring to watch. Great job, Pilots!!

The Varsity tennis team is one that is full of energy and spirit. Even through starting the season off with a 1-5 record, the girls have all stood together and continued fighting in every single match. They had a few close matches against Bishops and La Jolla Country Day, as well as hard-fought matches against League teams such as La Jolla High School and Scripps Ranch. The Pilots pulled off their first win of the season against Coronado High School, losing only 2 sets! The team is excited to continue the season and bring in more wins. Go Pilots!

Volleyball
The Volleyball program is starting to come together as a whole. The Frosh team has started off with a winning record and won the Silver bracket in the Westview Freshman Showcase tournament. The JV team has started off their season strong with a winning record and a strong showing in the gold bracket of the Sweetwater JV Invitational, only losing in the quarter final round to the eventual gold bracket winners. The young varsity team is finding their way. With a tough start to the season, the team has been picking it up and gelling. They were able to make the Silver bracket of the La Jolla Coastal Classic and even though they are currently 0-2 in league play, both matches were very competitive and close.
