JV Tennis
October was truly amazing for the JV Tennis Team! Early on we had a very fun doubles Tennis Mixer with the Saints JV Team which gave the opportunity for great tennis and friendship building. After that, the girls won every single match they played during October including a win over La Jolla High School, which was their sole loss back in September.

The season might be over but this team made a lasting impression on the playing field as they brought their best skills forward when it truly mattered. Everyone played and added to the team’s impressive 13-1 season victory! Go, PILOTS!!

Varsity Tennis
Regardless of the previous wins or losses in Varsity tennis, it always comes down to this; the final match against Cathedral Catholic. Cathedral was strong as they took an early lead, slowly pulling away. Each OLP player fought for every point to inch their way back into the match. As darkness slowly hovered over the Cathedral tennis courts the last singles match came to a 5-5 tie. OLP sisters will remember Thursday, October 14, 2021; the evening senior Katiana Yazdani ’21 fought her way to win that last match 7-5. The 2021 Pilots Varsity tennis team made sure their opponents remember forever the night they played the Pilots. Final score 10-8 OLP!

JV Volleyball
JV Volleyball has had a great season this year with some great wins and many tough matches overall. The team earned wins in October against Point Loma, Scripps Ranch, and Patrick Henry and they have three remaining games to go before the season comes to a close at the end of this month. This particular group of athletes has shown grit and determination from start to finish, working hard at practice and applying their skills during the games. There have been a lot of bright moments where they shared laughs, celebrated victories, and bounced back from losses. From away games to home games, including our Dig Pink event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the highlights of this season were endless. This group has truly demonstrated its ability to be resilient throughout all of the challenges of this season, bringing joy and passion to the game. Go Pilots!

Varsity Volleyball
Varsity volleyball has had its ups and downs this season.  Above all, there have been relationships that formed, camaraderie among the team, and regardless of the record, players have come out to compete every game. With only a couple of games left in the regular season, the team is looking to set their sights on CIF Division I playoffs during the week of October 25. Go Pilots!

Frosh Volleyball
October was a month where the Frosh volleyball team was able to really hit their stride and come together as a team. All their hard work in practice started to show on the court and we got to see some really competitive matches with a high level of play from our OLP Pilots. Highlight wins in October were against Patrick Henry and a redemption win in our second meet up with La Jolla High at home. We also saw a very competitive and exciting match at home against Cathedral Catholic where we saw our best play of the season. The team has their last match against Patrick Henry this week where we hope to end a fantastic season strong. This group of high spirited athletes have developed tremendously both as players and young women since joining the OLP and volleyball community and we look forward to seeing what they continue to contribute in the coming years. Go Pilots!!

Dance Team
The OLP Dance Team has had a busy start to the season, performing at multiple pep rallies, assemblies, and community events, in addition to Saints football games alongside our amazing OLP Cheerleaders! It’s been great to be performing again in front of a crowd. We are also in the midst of preparing for our competition season, which begins in January. Both Varsity and JV have been busy learning choreography from renowned choreographers, and we cannot wait to rehearse and perfect our new routines in the next few months before competition. We have a total of 12 group routines this year in the styles of Lyrical, Jazz, Pom, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. We hope to bring home more wins to our Pilot community. Go Pilots!

Varsity Golf
Thanks to great team depth, the Varsity Golf Team wrapped up October with a record of 10-4, poised and ready for the postseason.   Giselle Leon ‘24, Sienna Duggan ‘24, Maya Mendoza ‘22, Cassidy Matwiyoff ‘22, Vivian Garcia ‘22, Isabella Hernandez ‘23, and Aiko Santos ‘23  (pictured left to right) have all contributed to the success of the team.  Sophomore Sienna Duggan has consistently led the way for the Pilots as she has been ranked in to the top ten in the San Diego City Conference all season.  The Varsity Golfers have their first CIF playoff match coming up at The Grand Golf Club in Del Mar - good luck, Pilots!

JV Golf
The JV golf team finished league play this month with a record of 6-6. Although there were some ups and downs throughout the season, the team consistently improved and proved it by shooting their lowest two team scores in their last two matches. They wrapped up the season with a tournament against multiple schools at National City Golf Course. Congratulations to the team of Kate Celestino ('24), Ava Kuhn ('24), Isabel Jones ('24) and Theresa Aguilar ('24) for placing third in the competition! Great job this season ladies!

Cross Country
October has been a good month for the cross country team. The cross country team competed in their most difficult league meet of the season in which OLP beat La Jolla in a hard won battle.  Led by Winter Moritz who beat her PR by more than one minute to place second in the meet and was closely followed by freshman teammate Alexis Valderrama. Captain Sofia Brigida and sophomore Annie Hammes turned in strong performances, beating out La Jolla’s third runner. Olivia Shull, Zara Schmitt, and Captain Ella Jones rounded out the team as the top seven.

The JV team also won their meet. Many of the runners ran their fastest times ever. Great performances were turned in by seniors Alyssa Mollner and Sofia Silva and Frosh Gracie Gonzalez and Jovanna Garcia who all ran their fastest races.

The team is looking forward to league finals on November 9 at Morley Field. The JV race is at 3:00 pm and the varsity race at 4:00 pm. Come and cheer the team on to victory.
