Water Polo
Your OLP Varsity Water Polo team is continuing into its most successful season yet! The girls have been on an absolute tear lately. After hitting a little turbulence at the beginning of January, they have risen above and found some smoother air as they have gone 8 - 1 over their last nine games.

Three of those games were your Pilot Polo gals putting on a dominating performance as they were crowned champions of the Spartans Invite at Granite Hills. In addition to outscoring their opponents 54 - 8 across their three games, the team really came together and every single player got into the game and contributed for an awesome team performance with at least one offensive point (goal and/or assist). We made a statement and put the three letters of "O-L-P" on the lips of San Diego Girls Water Polo.

It is so fun to see the kids' hard work really starting to pay off. We are going to continue to glorify God through all that we do and keep moving in this positive direction. We have a grueling couple of months of league play and more coming up this month. Come out and support our gals if you get a chance! You can find our schedule and keep up with the team on Instagram or follow us on maxpreps.com!

Get used to hearing about this team, friends. Big things to come. God is so good, and so are y'all! PVO.

Dance
Huge congratulations to the OLP Dance Team for a great first competition of the season! Special shoutout to JV who swept in all 3 categories and extra congratulations to our soloists who placed in the top 10 of their divisions:

Sophomores Gabby McGillis placed 7th & Lily Casas placed 5th. Junior Ivana Togno placed 6th, and Senior Monica Gallego placed 1st out of 51 senior solos and got the second-highest score out of over 130 dancers! Congratulations to the entire team on a successful first competition!

Varsity & JV Soccer
The Varsity Pilots started off the new year with a 4-2 win against Grossmont High School. The Varsity Pilots have played their first round of league games finishing with three tough losses against Cathedral, Coronado, and Point Loma High School and a tie against Mission Bay High School. The team looks forward to bouncing back and finishing off the season strong as they head into the playoffs!

The JV Pilots kicked off league play with tough losses to Point Loma (1-2) and Cathedral (1-3) and a tie against Mission Bay (2-2). The JV Pilots have worked hard in spite of COVID and many injuries on the team. We look forward to working hard to end the season with some wins as we take on Helix and University City in addition to the teams in our league for the last few weeks of the season.

Novice Soccer
Featured in this issue are our 2021-2022 OLP Novice Soccer Team’s starting defenders. Helena LaBounty '25 has already recorded the first Clean Sheet of her rookie season as a goalie in a 2-0 shutout win against West Hills High School. Helena has seamlessly translated her volleyball-playing skills to soccer goalkeeping. At center back, Yasmeen Shah '25 is an experienced club soccer
player, who also excels at softball, the violin, and academics. It’s beautiful to watch Yasmeen win highly contested one-on-one balls against the most dangerous forwards with her strength, explosive speed, skill, and ability to read plays. Switching between center back and outside back, Nicollette Beadle '25 and Mary Isabelle Vena '25 form a dominant double team, who know just when to double up. Both Nikki and Izzy have the experience, speed, and physical tenacity to take on the best forwards. Zahra Mjahed '25 is a multi-position club player who also ran Cross Country. Zahra is a trained midfielder, but Zhara has played mostly defense for us. Zahra also excels at dance, the cello, the guitar, and academics . Eliana Pani '25 can play as a distributing mid, outside mid, and outside forward, but Eli has been our “silver bullet” at outside right back. Eli is the fastest player on our team, together with Helena Baez, and she can take on the fastest left-wingers in the league. Thank you, God, for all of Thy blessings!

Surf
Saints & OLP surf team put on a show this weekend up in Carlsbad in their victory against the previously undefeated Patrick Henry/Steele Canyon surf team. Saints & OLP surf team won 47 to 43 making them 3-1 so far this season. The team will be competing for the league title on Saturday, February 26 in Carlsbad. Come out and support the team!

Cheer
The JV and Varsity Cheer Teams are heading to the State Championships in Ontario on Saturday, February 29. JV is excited and looking forward to it as they will be making their season debut. Varsity is riding the momentum of their CIF Championship and looking forward to competing for the coveted State Championship!

Basketball
The Varsity Pilots kicked off Western League play with tough losses to top-ranked Cathedral Catholic and Scripps Ranch. The Varsity Hoopers currently sit at 6-10 with a number of make-up games on the horizon. Hope to see our fans at some upcoming games!

The Junior Varsity Pilots are in the midst of league play as well. Losses to Cathedral Catholic and Scripps Ranch were offset by a victory against Christian High School. Currently, the Pilots are 1-2 in League and 6-9 overall. The JV team has a number of league home games scheduled in the first few weeks of February and are poised to finish league play strong. The team plays an exciting brand of basketball and has a lot of on-court fun playing together!
